Wayne National Forest Seeking Youth for Summer Employment

NELSONVILLE, Ohio (Feb. 28, 2017) – The Wayne National Forest is now accepting applications for the Youth Conservation Corps (YCC). The YCC crew will work on various projects this summer to assist the recreation program, including trail construction and maintenance, campground maintenance, and trail bridge construction.

The Wayne National Forest will be staffing two YCC crews, based out of Nelsonville and Marietta. Each crew will consist of four members, two males and two females. Crew members will work full-time for a period of 8 weeks.  To be eligible for the program, participants must be 15 to 18 years of age during the YCC work period, approximately June 12-August 4, 2017. Participants must be available to work all eight weeks. Selected enrollees will be paid minimum wage for a 40-hour work week.

Nelsonville and Marietta crew applications will be accepted by fax to 740-753-0119, email to dmccarthy02@fs.fed.us, by mail or in person at the Nelsonville office, 13700 US Hwy. 33, Nelsonville, OH 45764.

Selections will be made by Wednesday, March 29, 2017, and selected applicants will be notified.  Selected applicants for the Athens crew are REQUIRED to attend a meeting on Tuesday, April 4, 2017 at 6 p.m. in Nelsonville.  Selected applicants for the Marietta crew are REQUIRED to attend a meeting on Thursday, April 6, 2017 at 6 p.m. in Marietta.  This scheduled meeting will complete the hiring process (please bring state issued ID, Social Security card, Direct Deposit information).

The YCC is a well-balanced work-learn-earn program that develops an understanding and appreciation in participating youth of the nation’s environment and heritage. It offers gainful summer employment to youth, ages 15-18, for approximately eight weeks, in an outdoor atmosphere.

Eligible youth must be permanent residents of the U.S., its territories, or possessions, and will be selected without regard to social, economic, racial, or ethnic backgrounds. Youth must have no history of serious criminal or other antisocial behavior that might endanger their safety or that of others; have or be able to obtain a work permit as required under Ohio laws; have a Social Security number or have made application for one; be willing and able to work hard and participate in most work projects.
